Equitable Economic Growth in Two Secondary Cities in Ghana

2019

In partnership with the University of Ghana’s Institute of Statistical, Social, and Economic Research and under the auspices of the Equitable Economic Growth project (a multicountry initiative aiming to promote equal access to services and economic opportunities in cities), Eparque focused on the needs of two secondary Ghanaian cities: Cape Coast and Agona Swedru. We collected household and business data in the field and created local assessment reports and evidence-based policy briefs. The assessment reports identified and analyzed key public goods/services, and the policy briefs included recommendations for improving institutional performance at the local level. The policy briefs also developed a financial operating plan for each city that included an estimate of potential project costs, based on revenues and expenditures. Three workshops were also held in each city to stimulate further policy development.
