Sustaining Prosperity by Building Disaster-Resilient Cities

2015

This report, which is chapter 6 in the World Bank publication Leveraging Urbanization in South Asia, takes a broad view of climate change risks in South Asia and recommends a regional approach to mitigating disaster risk and building resilience in urban areas. Many cities in South Asia are located in areas at great risk from climate change and attendant natural disasters. High urban poverty rates exacerbate this risk, as does lack of governmental readiness.
